Social Studies - Reflection

In Term 2 we conducted a H.R Social Inquiry on Child Labour in Zimbabwe.

In our investigation, we discovered that the main causes of Child Labour, different effects it has on the children etc. A main cause for child labour is because the parents of the children don’t have enough money for the kids to attend school. Early hours in the morning or even late nights, their begging on the street for food and money.

This week in Social Studies, we have been learning about Child Labour in many different countries.  In groups we have to decide which country we we're going to investagate on and find all information including working conditions, why their doing this etc.

Living and Non-living!

In Science class we have been learning a bunch of different things. First, we were learning about Living and Non-living things. Our teacher Mr Tyagi was helping us understand the differences between them.

Non-living:
Non-living are things are basically, dead and not alive. Things like, Peanut butter, Chocolate, a Chair and a phone are all non-living things. Sand and glass were never part of a living thing but Paper, it came from trees, and trees are living and trees feature some of the Seven Characteristics. Reproduction, Sensitivity, Movement, Respiration, Growth, Nutrition and Excretion are the Seven Characteristics.

Living: 
Living things are things that are alive and that ain't dead. Some living things may be a Human, Dog, Cat and etc. For example, A dog features some of the seven characteristics. It can Growth, Sense, Move, Eat, and Excrete.

My e-Portfolio, My Blog, and the year 10 Google+ Community

My E=Portfolio is going to be used visually showcae the work that I will do in Technology this year. My blog will be used to reflect on my learning in Technology. The year 10 Digitech Google+ community, will be used to collaborate with other students about the work we completed in Digitech. We will be developing a game relating too Sustanability. We have been trialing a game to learn new skills in scratch.

Manaiakalani Film Festival

Last week, Point England School students had the opportunity to go to Hoyts in Sylvia Park. We went there to watch movies that students have produced from other schools that are part of the Manaiakalani Cluster. Teachers and students could create any sort of movies they would like.

The year 7 and 8’s departed from school at 10.45am. This year I was lucky enough to get the chance to present our class movie with my fellow friend, Mary. We were presenting our movie about “The Life of a Germ”. It was about a germ that was spreading throughout all of the students in the classroom.

Once we arrived at Sylvia Park, all of the presenters walked to cinema two at Hoyts cinemas. We walked in and all I could see was a gigantic movie screen. I couldn’t wait to get tucked into watching all of the movies that were being premiered.

Mary and I arrived at our seating area and we were the 5th pair to present. I was getting so nervous  and there was so many butterflies in my stomach. I just couldn’t wait to get it done and over with.

Once we finished I was so relieved. I couldn’t wait to just go home and relax.
