Why can’t we hear sound in space?

Because space is a place of silence and there is also no air and also nothing for the vibration to travel through.

How to play net-ball!

How to play net-ball!

Do you know how to play net-ball? Well, if you don’t here is an explanation on how to. First, there are 7 positions that any of your teammates can play. For example Goal Shoot, Goal Attack, Goalkeeper, Wing Attack, Wing Defence and Centre.

To play have to know the basics. Passing, Not Stepping and . As you can see down below is what the court looks and where the positions go just before the whistle. In net-ball there is a round ball that is used. There are 2 goal posts  that the goal shoot and goal attack can shoot in. As you can see also in the picture that there are lines and 2 circles at the end of each end of the court. The lines are bound trees which of the positions cannot pass.

If you are not three feet from the person you are defending the ref will call obscuration. If you accidentally hit a person with the ball that is called contact. If you cross the line on the court when you are not supposed to that is called Braking, which is not a good thing. The ref will also blow the whistle and your team or the other team will get the ball. It depends who’s centre pass it is.

When you are Goal Shoot, your team is counting on you to get most of the goals in. Goal Attack is when you are also a shooter but you are just a back up for the Goal Shoot. GoalKeeper has to stop the Goal Shooter from shooting the ball into the goal. He or she and also around the court but within the circle and past the line.

Wing Attack is when you are a wing and the centre will pass it to you if there is no one else free. Wing Defence is like Wing Attack but different. You have to defend wing attack from the other team that you are versing. And the last position and the last one is Centre. You have to run around the court and be able to be there to get the ball.

Explanation of Homemade Instruments!

I’m going to explain how make a homemade Can Drum. It is very simple but can be hard at times if you DON’T follow the instructions correctly. Along the way I am going to be taking you though the instructions.

The materials that you will need are a can, Rubber Band and a piece of paper. First, cover the top of the can with the Piece of Paper, using the Rubber Band wrap it around the top of the can to keep the piece of paper down. Make sure that it doesn't come off.

Now you can see that your Can Drum might just look like a piece of paper covering the top of the can with a rubber band tied on the top to keep the paper down. But wait, when you hit/tap the top of the can it will make a little bang sound and if you make a little rhythm it could be a little jingle.

FiaFia Reflection!

Last night was the time our practices were going to pay off. After all of the practices to learn all the moves/actions it was time we had to perform our best. Rehearsing and planning everything to be perfect. We had to be focused and ready to perform.

First of all if you don’t know Fiafia is well, it is when my school come together and participate in groups. We choose any group that we want to be in. We just have a blast and just enjoy ourselves and be happy with our performance.  

At Fiafia I performed two times. I had to open the WHOLE thing with my Kapa Haka group. We sang three songs and people were saying we were loud. The second group was called “Precisely That”. This group was all about precision and standing straight and NOT looking up/down. And of course doing our thing.

While we were waiting to go to our holding rooms people were holding stalls that people can go to. All of the stalls sold food and drinks. Some stalls were selling lollie bags and a little easter egg raffle. I really enjoyed my burger that I got from my friend Nikita’s stall. It was nice and big and it was yummy. It made me full so that was good.

How did I feel you ask? Well, I think you might know. Nervous and worried of course that I was going to make a mistake and let my group down. But, when I got on the stage I was confident because I couldn’t see the crowd. It was like no people were watching us.

The Atmosphere was really BIG. There was 300 people watching us perform and most of the juniors were shy. Ohh, and we finished at 10.00pm so, the little kids were tired and they just wanted to go to sleep/bed. Some of them were crying and they wanted their mummy.

But sadly it came to an end and it was time to go home :(. I really enjoyed being in “Precisely That” it was fun. I would like to take this time to thank ALL of my tutors. Mr Barks, Mr Somerville, Miss Tito and Mr G. It was a good time.

Cyclone Lusi.

Do you know what a Cyclone is? Well a cyclone is like a mini tornado that can be formed by wind spinning round and round. A Cyclone can cause a lot of serious damage to property. Strong gale force winds caused trees to collapse. Sometimes there can be storms unexpected and people get hurt.

During a Cyclone heaps of things happen. For example homes will be wrecked, things will be blowing everywhere, flooding, huge waves, landslides, mudslides, falling trees, damage to buildings, boat evacuations and flying debris.

In the weekend the weather was very bad. There were dark clouds, gale force wind, it was really windy and it was raining but on the bright side it wasn’t as bad as we expected. But there was some annoying sounds.

To prepare secure objects outside in case they fly around and someone gets hurt. Stay inside and keep safe. Store food and water incase you get stuck in a room.Have handy a First Aid Kit for someone that gets hurt and has nothing to keep them alright.  

The Possibilities that can happen during a Cyclone are…… power outages/cuts. Sometimes maybe even deaths/accidents. Maybe people might get food shortage & water shortages. Expensive damage on homes and gardens. And instead of going to school we have to stay home.   

What Waitangi Means to Me.

Waitangi to me, means different Maori and European people made an agreement to sign the Treaty on 6 February 1840 to share their land with each other. But they are still arguing with each other today.

Some people call Waitangi Day a celebration because that’s exactly what it means. Australians celebrate their national holiday by having parties.

If you didn’t know  Protection, Partnership and Participation are the main words in Treaty of Waitangi. They are called the 3P’s at my school but I don’t know what you call it, and every Waitangi Day it is a holiday and we have no school and no work.
