Immersion Assembly Term 3 2014

On Monday the 21st of July was the first day of Term 3 and as usual we have Immersion Assembly. If you don’t know what Immersion Assembly is, it is when teachers from teams 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 play a movie or get up on stage and say or show what their theme is for this term. Their theme has to relate to what the whole school theme is which is ‘Game On’ for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

First, at immersion assembly Mr Jacobson did the introduction for the theme of the term. Then he introduced Team 1 to come up and show what their theme is for this term. The teachers played a movie and then they walked up on to the stage. They were dressed up to represent what country they are from. Mrs Moala was wearing American things, Mrs Lal was wearing a Fijian T-Shirt, Mrs Rapold was wearing South African things and Mrs Wild was wearing New Zealand things.

Next, Mr Jacobson introduced Team 2. The teachers also played a movie and when it was done the teachers (Mrs Eadie, Mrs Mckinley-Haigh, Mrs She and Ms Dwyer) came up the front and held up a trophy to pretend to show that they won the Commonwealth games. In the movie it showed different sports in the Commonwealth games, for example netball, 400m sprint and much more. The teachers were even acting in the movie like they were playing in the Commonwealth Games.

Team 3 was next to show what their theme was. Like last term Mrs Barks (a teacher) got up on stage and introduced the other teachers in the same team, who were dressed up as athletes that compete in gymnastics. Mrs Barks told a story about the Commonwealth Games and then the teachers, or should I say athletes, performed their talent. One teacher performed with a round ball. One teacher was performing with hula hoops and the other two teachers performed with a ribbon.

Second to last to perform was Team 4. They didn’t perform, instead the teachers created a movie to show to the school. The movie was about a new sport that is in the Commonwealth Games. The teachers made up a sport called Mashed Potato Sculpting. The countries that were competing were Jamaica, India, Canada, Cook Island and Scotland. They played the game and Canada got disqualified for being Canadian. And Jamaica won!

The last team to perform was Team 5. Like Team 4 they just played a movie of the teachers that travelled to different countries in the holidays. Miss Clark went to New York, U.S.A, Ms Squires went to Chile, Miss Paget went to Atlanta, U.S.A and Mrs Nua went to Spain. Miss Clark saw Kim Kardashian. In the movie there was a photo of Miss Clark and there was writing on the picture and it said ‘Can you see Kim Kardashian?’ I thought that was amazing because she is famous in the United States Of America.

Overall Immersion Assembly was fun. I like the first day back of any term because Immersion Assembly happens every year and every term. I think that  having Immersion Assembly every term to show what the theme is for school is cool. I like that the teachers perform on stage. It is boring if  we come to class and our teacher just tells us what our theme is.

FIFA World Cup!

Right now there is a FIFA World Cup being played. There are 32 countries participating in this event. Their is a FIFA World Cup every 4 years. Every match is 90 minutes and it is a good chance for the team that is behind come back. FIFA stands for Fédération Internationale de Football Association. If you are on top of your group that you are playing in, that country will win the FIFA Cup.

This year I really hope that Brazil wins the cup. I think that because Brazil is the country that is hosting the World Cup and I really think that they are great at Soccer. Brazil have been winning all of their games, so that is another reason why I want them to win.
