Manaiakalani Film Festival

Last week, Point England School students had the opportunity to go to Hoyts in Sylvia Park. We went there to watch movies that students have produced from other schools that are part of the Manaiakalani Cluster. Teachers and students could create any sort of movies they would like.

The year 7 and 8’s departed from school at 10.45am. This year I was lucky enough to get the chance to present our class movie with my fellow friend, Mary. We were presenting our movie about “The Life of a Germ”. It was about a germ that was spreading throughout all of the students in the classroom.

Once we arrived at Sylvia Park, all of the presenters walked to cinema two at Hoyts cinemas. We walked in and all I could see was a gigantic movie screen. I couldn’t wait to get tucked into watching all of the movies that were being premiered.

Mary and I arrived at our seating area and we were the 5th pair to present. I was getting so nervous  and there was so many butterflies in my stomach. I just couldn’t wait to get it done and over with.

Once we finished I was so relieved. I couldn’t wait to just go home and relax.

The College Talk - Andrew Patterson

This afternoon we had Andrew Patterson came to our school to talk to us about college next year. He talked to us about being a great person in college and asked us to name some subjects at college. Most people said social studies, science and english. Everyone was actually looking forward to those subjects.

He was also telling us about the 7 habits that normal teens so know. Number 1 - Be Proactive, Number 2 - Begin with end in mind, Number 3 - Put first things first, Number 4 - Think Win-Win, Number 5 - Synergize, Number 6 - Seek first to understand then be understood and lucky last - Sharpen the saw.

This here is my thinkboard for this week. Like always, we had a different question. It is 215.5 x 20. We had to figure out the answer by showing a diagram of our thinking, what strategy I used, 10 other similar questions and a word story problem.

It was one lovely night and the moon was glissering high in the sky. I had been waiting for this special night as it is my birthday. I had some of my awesome friends come over to my house for a sleepover. My mother and I had planned an agenda for us to do.

First on our list, was to go and collect everyone up from there houses. My friends that were coming over were Lesieli, Nikita and Quasia. Nikita got dropped off but we went to collect the others.

When everyone had been comfortably sitting down waiting for what was going to happen. We decided to go and pick up some delicious pizza from Pizza Hut. We had already pre-ordered it so we just needed to pick it up. As I was sitting down, I could smell the delicious aroma of the pizza rising from the box as it was slowly making it’s way across the room. Therefore, it caused me to drool a little.

Once all of the pizza was finished, we headed to Skateland. Skateland is an indoor roller skating rink for anyone that is willing to skate just for fun. We had arrived and it wasn’t that packed with people. We had collected our roller skates and headed towards the rink. As I was putting my skates on, I could see exciting faces on people in the rink and I was so eager to get in and start rolling around.

Once I entered the rink, I was really nervous and excited at the same time because I hadn’t had skated for a really long time. When I first started, I held on to the side of the rink because I wasn’t ready to let go yet. Opposite me was, Nikita. She doesn’t really like roller skating but she gave it a go and I was proud of her. A few minutes later was flying like an eagle in the sky. She wasn’t even scared anymore and I wasn’t too.

We stayed at skateland for about 2 to 3 hours and then we decided to leave. When we arrived back home, and we set up our beds downstairs and had all of our showers. While, 1 was in the shower, everyone else was just helping to set up for our night time slumber party! We had already picked out our snacks a few hours before at Pak’n’save and we had a movie playing for us to enjoy while we were relaxing.

The next day, we headed to Jump NZ for just a little fun for us to have before we took everybody home. We had received our Jump socks and then walked into the Trampoline arena. We could see a foam pit, a dodgeball bit, a free run area and a basketball hoop area. We all couldn’t wait to just get in and jump around. We were so thrilled and delighted.  

We then decided to go and play dodgeball. It was so Hilarious. Lesieli nearly got a ball to the face and so did Quasia and Nikita. But the funny thing is, that we were versing little kids and they were better than us. I couldn’t believe it. It was just a game in the end though.

While everyone was jumping around, my mum had bought us some drinks so we wouldn’t die of thirst. Once, we had finished our drinks, we then went to get some lunch. We drove straight to KFC for lunch so we could put something into our empty stomachs. I didn’t really want KFC, I wanted Mcdonalds but sadly, my mum said “NO, we will just have KFC because it is closer to our house”.  

Next, we then, sadly had to drop everyone off to there houses. I didn’t want to but we had to because, Lesieli and Quasia had to go to church and Nikita, well, she didn’t have to go, but she didn’t want to be the only girl left. So, we just took her home anyway.

Split Second... Gone!

Title - Split Second…Gone!  

It was a cool evening and the moon was glistening in the sky. My family and I were patiently waiting to go and watch an outdoor screening of the movie, Madagascar 3. We had packed all of our snacks for us to eat. We had bananas, crackers, ice blocks, drinks and much more. We also had a mini tent for us to relax in. I was excited for the events to follow.  

We had arrived into our section and I had got a glimpse of the gigantic movie screen. WOW! I was so impressed with the size of it and I  couldn’t wait for us to see the movie with the loud sound speakers. There were people comfortably sitting down waiting for the movie to kickstart, it was at that moment that I could smell the buttery popcorn cooking, making my mouth drool just a thought of eating it.

We were just about to go and watch our movie, but then, I had just noticed that I had dropped my ipod touch a split second ago. My family was looking everywhere around where we were and it wasn’t in our eye site. We had traced back all of our steps and we still couldn’t see it anywhere. At this point, I was getting very worried that I might never get my ipod back and never play on it again.

With the sadness that had happened, we just decided to still watch the movie and then, find my ipod afterwards. When the movie finished, we still couldn’t find it so, we went to the hosts of this event to tell them what had happened.

A few weeks later, we received a call from them and they said someone had handed it in to them and they said it was just a few steps behind us. I had felt thrilled and relieved  that someone had found my ipod. I also felt a bit blind because we couldn’t see it anywhere around us.

I wish I could say thank - you to that person but sadly, he/she wasn’t there when we went to pick it up. If the person that is reading this I would just like to say thank - you for handed it and being a kind person for doing that. Thank - you!

Miss Universe Pageant Contestants visiting our school!

Yesterday, we had 16 miss universe pageant contestants that came to our school to talk to us about enterprise. There are 20 contestants altogether but we had, 16 come to our senior block. Out of all of the contestants, only 1 will be crowned Miss NZ and then travel overseas to compete with other winners from all over the country. By the way, my favourite pagent is Hannah Henderson!

One pagent, Sharne was talking to us about to be entrepreneur and to always follow your dreams. Monique talked about her job at flava. Hannah told us about her job also, but she was a surf instructor.

How to Prevent Yourself from Getting Sick!!

Winter is the time of year when most people contract an illness. This is for various reasons such as the temperature. The weather conditions are really poor lately. Temperatures drop to as low as 3 to 4 degrees in Auckland. With temperatures that low people often fall sick accordingly, the cold can affect your body, therefore you should cover up with warm clothing. This explanation will provide you with information that will help prevent you becoming sick this winter.

One way to keep yourself nice and well is to take vitamin C. Vitamin C is really good to take when you are sick. It has all of the citrus in oranges, lemons, limes and other fruits like that. The citrus should help you feel refreshed and it will prevent you from getting sick.

Another way of keeping well is by getting the flu shot. If you do get the flu shot, it will help you even more so you won’t get sick. Doctors and nurses inject you with a little bit of the flu that is filled with vaccines and antibodies that are good for you, It will prevent you from getting sick.

The last way that can help you from not getting sick is too keep yourself clean. Taking a shower, using hand sanitizer and washing your hands will make all of the dirt and germs that are on you, disappear.`1236

Those are some things that you can do to prevent yourself from getting sick. I hope that you got to find out some new information on things that you can do, to not get you sick. If you do these things, it will help you a lot and you shouldn’t get sick any time soon.

Netball Tournament on Wednesday 12 of August.

On Wednesday, a group of 5, 6, 7 and 8 students were selected to play in a mixed tamaki Cluster Inter Zone tournament on Wednesday the 12th of August. All of the teams had around 10 - 12 players. For one game only 4 girls and 3 boys were allowed to play on the court at a time. 

First, we had to go and get changed into our netball uniforms and be ready to play against other schools. We had to be at school at 8am and leave at 8.45. When we departed from our school, all of the other tamaki schools were there. Some were watching people play and some were playing. 

Our first game was against Stonefields. They were pretty easy to verse but it was a bit challenging for some of us. Our goal defence (GD) got a lot of intercepts and so did our wing attack (WA). I was playing goal shooter (GS) and so was this other boy in my team, we were taking turns.

All of our games were challenging but overall we won 4 games and lost 2, we came 4th out of 10 schools and I think that is okay. I was really proud with our team and we came a really good placing.

How I Receive and Spend Money

Money is a worldwide currency that is used to purchase anything you require. Different countries have different currencies. Various countries have currencies that are stronger than others. For example, if I took 100 NZ dollars to America and I exchanged it for US dollars, I would approximately get 75 US dollars. When I receive money I save it and save it for the future.  

To earn money, every Thursday I have a job at the AMI netball courts. I get to umpire different amount of games. If I umpire one game I will be handed 10 dollars, if I umpire two games I recieve 20 dollars. So, the more games you umpire the more money you get.

I don’t really receive money from my parents, but only if I do jobs. If I wash the car I will get 10 dollars. I don’t really get money for doing household jobs because my parents think that it is just a regular thing.

Pourquoi Tale - Why a Giraffe is yellow

Why a Giraffe is yellow:  

One night, Mr Giraffe was attending a party. The theme was bright and loud and Mr Giraffe didn’t know what to wear. He was thinking and thinking for a long period of time of what he was going to do.

Mr Giraffe was rummaging through his closet and found this bright yellow costume. “This is PERFECT” Mr Giraffe said with excitement. He was looking forward to wearing it.

They party was just a few hours away and Mr Giraffe was ready to get his boogie on. He arrived at the party and everyone was just admiring Mr Giraffe because of his outfit. People were loving the way he dressed and was just liking the colour.

Mr Giraffe was just having the time of his life. Everyone was dancing. Soon, the party ended and Mr Giraffe head home. When he arrived he just flopped in his bed and fell straight to sleep.

When Mr Giraffe woke up he was still in his bright yellow costume. He was thinking about the party and remembered that people were loving his costume. Soooo… Mr Giraffe decided to stay with it and just enjoy his new look.

ThinkBoard - Week 9 Part 2

This here is a thinkboard that I have created in just 10 minutes. I had to come up with 10 similar questions, a word story, a diagram and show what strategy I used. The numbers we had to work with was 29 and 9. We had to find the area and perimeter. The answer I got for the area was 261 and for the perimeter I got 87.

A Mansion Sells for a $1 - Article

In the 1860’s, Samuel Ouerbacker built this historic mansion in Louisville, Kentucky. This mansion just sold for $1. For the reason that, the mansion was falling apart. The auctioneer hoped that someone was willing to put the time and money into redesigning and restoring the mansion.

Later, the mansion went up for auction again and was bought by an architect. But, his plan to restore the mansion and turn it into its old glory, he left the mansion in the worst conditions.

The auction started up again and was bought by a design company named ‘Oracle Design’. They are planning to restore the property, section of the mansion and start to build apartments.

There haven’t been any official plans yet. But, there will be soon!

State of Origin - NSW vs QLD

Right Now, their is a state of origin going on. New South Wales and Queensland are going to be playing against each other in 3 rounds of games. Who ever wins the game, wins a state of origin shield.

In the origin there is only one country that takes part in this and it is, Austrailia. They go head to head to see who will win.

The team I am going for is, Queensland. I don’t like New South Wales because they cause a lot of fights. Also, Queensland has won 8 years in a row and I like the colour of their uniform.

Breeze	Students always touch the notice boards	Have more than one touch screen like… 3? And put all the notices on the touch screens. Tuck Shop	Students always buy something but always leave their rubbish  on the school grounds.	We could have students be picking up rubbish if they wanted to. Junior Court	Always kick the ball and never look out for little kids,	We could make a little kids area in front of the library. We could create a obstacle course. Playgrounds	Juniors always play on the senior playground when they are not supposed to,	We could have a sign in front of each playground to simplify the years that are allowed on each park. Village	The path to the village is parkaru, The village needs some art.	We could build a pathway to the village and make it very colourful and exciting to walk on. The art in the village it very bland. We could paint some more.	It will be much more fun for the little kids and it will much easier for them as well. Whole School	Bags outside junior classrooms	We could build bag hangers for the little kids in the junior area. They are just leaving their bags outside and it will be helpful if there were hangers.
